Creating Professional Photography w/ $30 Reflectors – Photography Lighting Tutorial

Posted on

Full article at - www.slrlounge.com About a month ago, we took on the challenge of shooting an entire fashion shoot with just an iPhone and a couple reflectors as a follow up video to the FStoppers iPhone Fashion Shoot. The SLR Lounge iPhone Photo Shoot has gotten a lot of attention and we thought it was time for a follow up video. So, in this follow up video, we will be showing you guys the exact reflector lighting techniques that we used to pull off every shot that we took in the SLR Lounge iPhone Photo Shoot. However, we will be using a legit camera this time. This time we will be using our 5D Mark II along with a 50mm 1.4 Prime Lens. But, trust me that you can pretty much get these exact same shots with virtually any DSLR body with a 50mm 1.4 Prime Lens attached. Below the video, we have listed out all of the equipment and software used to create these shots. So be sure to check that out as well. Enjoy, and as always, let us know what you think!

  6. @turgore i also think the photoshop edits are just a tad too much and not as natural

  7. I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY.

  8. is it me or are the lightroom edits better than the photoshop edits ?

  9. It would be nice to see the camera settings along with the finished photos :o ) I’d like to know what apeture/iso and shutter speed you used on each of these shots. great video!!

  10. Awesome. May I visit your personal website if possible? I want to know more about you! Currently I study at St. John’s University(NY). And I and the president of Photography Society as well. As a rookie in this industry, I am willing to learn from you. Your photography skills( according to this video you post) is as awesome as your Chinese. I am impressed.

  11. @maymaiv1 I am shooting Manual on a 50mm lens. Which is probably one of the best lenses you can start with. But, really you can shoot these on anything, 50mm, 70-200, 85mm. Shooting on a prime (fixed focal length) at a low aperture is what is going to give you that really buttery soft look in the bokeh (blurred background).

  12. @mioulilovelife Haha, I remember you! Yeah, I speak Chinese/Cantonese. I have been a professional photographer for a while, even when we met ;) . I will have to do a follow up Chinese video sometime soon. Thanks for the comment! ;)

  13. OMG I see you everywhere at YOUTUBE. You speak CHINESE PERFECTLY and now you do photography..? I met you at LAS VEGAS before…man.. you are awesome.

  15. I just gotta say… you say you’re gonna use a “non-model”, but she’s an easier subject to work is as one, she’s hot… two, she seems comfortable posing…

I would love to see you shoot someone who isn’t comfortable in front of a camera, see how the shots turn out then…

  16. Hello my name is so good I yassine 20 years I am a fan, I hat to work with you I hope you agree

  17. This is cool! And how about Time-Lapse Photography? do you know how to do it with ANY camera? check out this device: (copy to address bar): tempusALL.bymac.org

  18. Look at all those ants bustling to and from in the background :)

  19. Appreciated your efforts

  20. Nice work

  21. Of course, it’s all good, but how to solve the problem of covert (eyes closed) eyes from bright sun glare? Some people squint when they are sent to the reflector. Do not shoot well in the dark glasses:)

  22. @d7e7r7 That’s going to be Part 3 of the series.

  23. @SLRlounge – Can’t you also discuss what Lightroom and Photoshop techniques you used in the pics in the video?

  24. @AlphaSphere Check out the full set of pictures on facebook.com ‘forwardslash’ slrlounge
